TAMPA, Fla. – Illinois State baseball junior Tyler Herron has signed a non-drafted free agent deal with the Tampa Bay Rays following the conclusion of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Herron, a native of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, spent the 2024 season in Normal. He finished the season hitting .328 (tied for second-best on the team) with eight extra-base hits, 17 RBIs, and reached base at a clip of .389 in his lone season as a Redbird.
Herron, who began his collegiate career with two years at Parkland College, hit .282 with 32 extra-base hits and 48 RBIs as a Cobra.
Herron is the third non-drafted free agent in the Steve Holm era, joining Hayden Jones in 2021 (Cincinnati Reds, non-drafted free agent), and INF Nick Gile in 2022 (Colorado Rockies, non-drafted free agent).
This is a developing story and additional information on placement will be available at a later date.
