Cougars Shine While Hosting Inaugural Windy City Classic at Harborside International

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago State women’s golf team capped off a historic week by hosting the program’s first-ever Windy City Classic, welcoming a competitive NCAA Division I field to Harborside International Golf Center  on October 6–7.

The Cougars delivered a strong showing on home turf, highlighted by three top-five finishes and a spirited team effort that set the tone for future editions of the event.

Begona Perez led the way for Chicago State, finishing fourth overall at +8 (75-77) in a consistent two-round performance. Close behind was Almudena Agüera, who each tied for fifth at +11. Gia Lamba posted a T-11 finish, while Aarushi Bhanot rounded out the Cougar lineup in for a T-30 place.

As a team, Chicago State finished second overall in the inaugural field, closing behind team champion UIC, then behind Chicago State Eastern Illinois and Southern Indiana.

The Flames’ Camille Rosier and Alejandra Ereno shared medalist honors at +5, edging out Eastern Illinois’ Mya Mirocha (+6) and Chicago State’s Perez (+8) to cap an exciting leaderboard.

Director of Golf Jean Macon was proud of the program’s showing both on and off the course:

“Hosting the Windy City Classic is a milestone for our team and for Chicago State Athletics,” the coach said. “Our players competed with pride, and seeing multiple Cougars finish near the top reflects the hard work they’ve put in this fall. This event is something we can continue to grow for years to come.”

The inaugural Windy City Classic marks a major step forward for the program, spotlighting Chicago State’s growth within Division I women’s golf and the university’s commitment to growing the sport in the city of Chicago.

Chicago State will now turn its attention to the final stretch of the fall season, carrying valuable momentum from its home event.
