SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Several Illinois State men’s tennis student-athletes have been honored by The Summit League for their academic successes, as six Redbirds were named to the 2023-24 Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence on Thursday. In addition, eight Redbirds were named to the 2023-24 Summit League Academic Honor Roll.
The Summit League released the list of nearly 900 student-athletes named to the 2023-24 Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence and the list includes student-athletes from the League’s nine member institutions and seven associate members competing in 17 different sports.
For a student-athlete to be selected to the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, the student-athlete must carry a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA, have used a year of eligibility and completed three full semesters or five quarters at the nominating institution. Student-athletes having a 3.9 or higher cumulative career grade-point average are designated with an asterisk to indicate “with distinction.”
Illinois State’s 2023-24 Commissioner’s List honorees included Tin Ostro*, Caden Scarlett*, Tomas Valencia*, Emiliano Gonzalez, Arvid Hjalte and Ming-Chieh Chiu. Teammates Tom Bevan and Adrian Dibildox joined those six as Summit League Academic Honor Roll members.
Hjalte and Ostro were two of the seven men’s tennis student-athletes who were named to the 2024 Summit League Academic All-League team following the regular season. Hjalte was one of four student-athletes who had been named to the all-league academic team multiple times, while Ostro picked up his first academic league honor.
