Redbird Trio Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State volleyball trio Aida Shadewald, Cassie Jordan, and Hannah Reichensperger were named CSC Academic All-District honorees, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Volleyball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on January 9. In order to earn Academic All-District, nominees had to be at least sophomore status with a minimum of a 3.50 GPA and played in 75% of the team’s matches. CSC is formerly CoSIDA.

Shadewald, a Prairie du Sac, Wis. native, led the Redbirds with 384 kills, setting a career-high mark of 3.49 kills/set. Shadewald totaled 20 matches in 2023 with 10+ kills, including a career-best 23 in a three-set win over Murray State on Oct. 14. Shadewald was also the team leader with 36 service aces in 2023, including at least one ace in 19 matches and four matches with 3+ aces.

The sophomore was once again a mainstay for the Redbirds, tallying 222 digs as a six-rotation player with six matches (four in MVC play) of at least 10+ digs in 2023. Finally, the Wisconsin native registered 46 blocks, with at least one block in 23 of ISU’s 31 matches this season and 11 matches with multiple blocks.

Shadewald was named a 2023 All-MVC First Team selection as well as a MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team honoree for her efforts on and off the court as she currently maintains a 4.00 grade-point average while pursuing a degree in Biology.

Jordan, a Painesville Township, Ohio native, stepped up into a more prominent role for the ‘Birds through the 2023 campaign. The senior finished 2023 with 111 kills (1.13 kills/set) while adding 20 digs and 80 blocks. This season, Jordan finished with five-plus kills in 11 matches while totaling 21 matches with multiple blocks.

Jordan currently is part of Illinois State’s Exercise Physiology graduate program while attaining an undergraduate grade-point average of 4.00 in Exercise Science. Jordan was named to the 2023 MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention team last month.

Reichensperger, a Tower, Minn. native, had her 2023 season cut short as she would miss the final five matches after going down with an injury on Nov. 3 versus UIC. Despite the injury, Reichensperger still led the way for the ‘Birds with 84 blocks, including 62 block assists, in 2023.

Reichensperger played in a total of 88 sets for ISU, tallying 234 kills (2.66 kills/set), 10 service aces, 54 digs, and eight set assists this season. She had nine matches with 10+ kills while totaling 20 matches with double-digit blocks for the Redbirds.

Reichensperger currently maintains a 4.00 grade-point average while pursuing a degree in Statistics and was named a member of the 2023 MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention team.
