(FOX40.COM) — As summer heats up, Placerville families can still count on the city’s beloved Aquatics Center for swim lessons, water aerobics, and weekend fun, though with some changes to the schedule.
“It’s already not very much time that we have to swim. It’s such a good resource and there’s so many people here that want to use it,” said Sara Nelson, a Placerville resident and Mom who’s children attend the aquatic center.
“It’s also wonderful to have these programs, but if you shorten any of them, then they’re all going to be conflicting.”
City officials confirmed that despite a $1 million general fund shortfall, the pool will remain open through August 3rd with modified hours starting in July.
The July hours have not been posted as of now.
Programs like swim lessons, lap swim, water aerobics, and weekend public swim will continue as planned.
However, the updated schedule reflects what city leaders call a necessary step toward balancing budget challenges with community needs.
“This decision wasn’t made lightly, but it was made with purpose,” a City of Placerville spokesperson said. “Small savings today help preserve big impacts tomorrow.”
City staff say the updated hours are designed to maintain key services while addressing fiscal responsibility. They’re also thanking the community for its continued support and patience as the changes roll out.
For the most up-to-date schedules or questions about programming, residents can contact the Community Services Department at (530) 642-5232.
