No. 7 Calaveras to face No. 2 West Campus in State second round

Calaveras will face West Campus in the second round of the CIF State Division IV Boys’ Basketball championships Saturday night in Sacramento. The game will be the second of a doubleheader, so the start time will be at 8 p.m.

No. 7 Calaveras advanced to the second round after defeating No. 10 Woodside Priory 58-51 Wednesday night in San Andreas. Senior forward Wyatt Ames led Calaveras with 16 points.

West Campus, who is ranked No. 2, is the newly crowned CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champions after defeating Placer 67-60. Placer reached the section title game by defeating Calaveras 66-56.

West Campus finished tied for second in the Golden Empire League with a 9-3 record, but finished 24-7 overall. The Warriors won their opening state game 64-47 over Lowell.

Since 2008, Calaveras leads the head-to-head matchup 2-1. West Campus defeated Calaveras 68-43 in 2016, but Calaveras was victorious 53-50 in 2014 and 58-52 in 2008.

The winner of Saturday’s game will face the winner of No. 3 Saint Mary’s vs. No. 11 Sonora.
