Mt. Zion uses early flurry to dispatch Taylorville

MT. ZION — After quick start, it was a smooth evening for Mt. Zion on its way to its fourth-straight win.

The Braves didn’t allow a point in the game’s first four minutes and its high-tempo offense scored at will early in a 74-39 win over Taylorville at home on Tuesday.

Lyncoln Koester and Sam Driscoll each had 14 points while JC Anderson added 12 for Mt. Zion (22-1).

The Braves scored the game’s first 12 points and 17-3 lead midway through the first quarter meant the result wasn’t in doubt for long. By the end of the first quarter after a flurry of buckets in transition the Braves had a 27-7 lead.

Mt. Zion’s zone defense and ball pressure kept up the pace in the second, with multiple steals and deflections from its players inside. That pressure also led to multiple Taylorville (4-20) turnovers and a 53-19 lead for the Braves at the break.
