On February 26, at around 1 a.m., a business on West 8th Street was burglarized, which resulted in nearly $15,000 worth of products being stolen, CPD said. The CPD Investigation Bureau was assigned the case and initiated a follow-up investigation.

During the months-long investigation process, detectives said they were able to identify Steven Lewark as the primary suspect in the case, CPD said.

CPD said that the detectives received credible information that Lewark had stolen property that was associated with the Deer Creek burglary.

On Thursday afternoon, officials said that CPD detectives reached out to Lewark in front of his home and conducted a probation search, which resulted in the recovery of the stolen property from the burglary.

Lewark was arrested without any incident and booked into the Butte County Jail for multiple felony charges, which included burglary, receiving stolen property, and violation of probation, CPD said.

“Our officers and investigators have worked tirelessly and with unwavering commitment to bring this case to a resolution. We remain resolute in our pledge to pursuing justice, no matter how long it takes, and ensuring the safety and security of our community,” Chief Billy Aldridge said.
