Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team headed to NCAA Tournament


The Illinois Wesleyan women’s volleyball team, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin regular season and tournament champion, will open play in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Thursday.

The Titans will be in action on the campus of Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio, and will face Franklin & Marshall in the first round at Ban Johnson Arena at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Illinois Wesleyan women claimed the CCIW Tournament championship in volleyball.




Also in the eight-team pod are No. 5-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh, No. 8 Marietta, Marymount (Va.), No. 20 Chicago, Centre and St. John Fisher.

The 22-9 Titans will make their first national tournament appearance since 2021 and the eighth in program history this week.

IWU downed No. 10 Millikin in five sets for the CCIW Tournament championship last Saturday at Shirk Center.

The winner of the Marietta pod advances to the Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Cregger Center in Salem, Va. The final rounds will be played Dec. 4-7, with the national championship match slated for 4 p.m. Dec. 7.

Smith eyes No. 500

IWU women’s basketball coach Mia Smith stands at 499 career victories entering Saturday’s 1 p.m. nonconference game against Edgewood at Shirk Center.

Smith’s Titans are ranked 10th nationally and are 2-0 after defeating No. 12 Hope and Calvin this past weekend at the Hope/Calvin Classic.

Crabtree to nationals

Wesleyan junior cross country runner Adriana Crabtree will compete in the Division III national championships on Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Crabtree earned the national berth by finishing 13th at last week’s Midwest Regional Championships. That’s the best regional finish by a Titan since 2015.
