ATLANTA — There is no replacing Ron Washington. But Matt Tuiasosopo has earned the chance to fill the role previously held by the beloved former Braves coach.
The Braves filled each of the three vacancies on their coaching staff on Monday afternoon. Tuiasosopo will serve as the third-base coach and Tom Goodwin will be the new first-base coach. Erick Abreu comes from the Astros to become Atlanta’s new bullpen coach.
When Washington was named the Angels manager last month, he took former Atlanta first-base coach Eric Young Sr. with him. The bullpen coach role opened two weeks ago, when Drew French left the Braves to become the Orioles’ pitching coach.
