Over 160,000 people attended the 11th annual Aftershock music festival at Discovery Park in Sacramento on Oct. 5-8, 2023. Aftershock attracted people from Texas, Florida and New York to Sacramento to enjoy the four-day festival.
With over 90 bands, including Korn, Dethklok and BabyMetal as well as up-and-coming bands traveling from Kentucky, France and Japan, Aftershock gave many attendees a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Among those in attendance lots of people wore cosplay and costumes, and enjoyed the festivities throughout all four days — while also trying to beat the heat, with some of the days’ temperatures reaching into the 90s .

Neezy is the multimedia editor for the Express. This is Neezy’s third semester photographing for the Express. Neezy wants to bring awareness to issues that affect students and the community alike. Neezy uses documentary, portrait and conceptual fine art styles to evoke emotional responses with photography.

Manuel Figueroa is a staff photographer for the Express. This is his second semester photographing for the Express. His interests lie in photography and covering various sports or other entertainment events.
His interest in photography comes from movies, video games and his grandpa who was always taking photos. His inspiration to photograph sports comes from watching a lot of mixed martial arts over the years. A photographer he looks up to, Esther Lin, captures amazing moments during the fights, as well scenes from before and after the competition. Manuel hopes to capture similar moments that display the various actions and emotions during competitive sporting events.
Manuel’s other passions and hobbies include landscape photography, playing video games, listening to music, going to concerts, hiking and now building a vinyl collection. With an associate degree in photography from City College, he plans to keep building his sports portfolio and continue learning about photographing sports. His other work can be found here.
